AOL broadband Provider

If any one word that can aptly describe AOL, it will be 'innovation'. Knowing the growing popularity of wireless broadband, AOL revamped their two broadband packages providing wireless support to their customers. Then came, the free laptop offer with Wireless Plus package. Seeing the excellent response from the customers to this special offer, AOL not only extended its time period but also introduced another special offer - a free PS3 with Wireless Plus package. Recently, AOL Broadband Provider introduced no contract option with their Wireless broadband package as many customers feel more comfortable with such packages than long contracts.

Promoted by Times Warner, a media company in the USA, American Online Inc launched its subsidiaries in many European countries including UK. AOL Europe, the parent company started its business division in UK in 1996. Here are some of the mile stones in the history of AOL UK during a decade:

• Between 1996 and 2001, AOL provided dial-up services.
• AOL broadband was launched in 2002. BT lines were used to provide broadband in early years and the unbundling of local exchanges was already started and became a thrust area in the subsequent years.
• In 2006, the Carphone Warehouse acquired the internet division of AOL UK. By then, AOL was one of the largest LLU operators in UK and the merger with the Carphone Warehouse has made the latter the third largest LLU provider in UK.
• Currently, 34% of AOL broadband customers are covered by the ISP's LLU network.
• In 2007, AOL restructured its broadband services. Free wireless router along with complete technical support was offered to the customers.
• The same year, AOL introduced free laptop offer (worth £450) for the new customers who sign up to Wireless Plus package. Later, a free PlayStaion 3 (PS3) offer was launched with the same package.
• In March, 2008, no contract broadband option was introduced with Wireless package.

With AOL, you may not find many choices, as they offer just three packages - AOL Wireless, AOL Wireless Plus and AOL Wireless Flexi. However, you get a wide range of benefits like free setup, free wireless router worth £50, option to add AOL Evening & weekend calls free for first 3 months, one month free broadband when you order online and free internet security.
